Point in Time Count
On January 30, 2008, communities across Connecticut conducted the second statewide count of homeless individuals and families. The new statewide Point-In-Time Count of homeless indicates a 13% increase in homeless families across the state, a finding consistent with Connecticut’s growing shortage of affordable housing and with survey responses indicating that rent problems have led to homelessness.
The Point-In-Time Count was funded by the State of Connecticut Office of Policy and Management, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Office for Workforce Competitiveness, Department of Social Services, Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, Connecticut Department of Children and Families, Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut Department of Public Health, Court Support Services Division, The Melville Charitable Trust, and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. The count was coordinated by the CT Coalition to End Homelessness.
